Nancy Drew Fans
Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her is the title of a recent book by Melanie Rehak. The author was a fan (she pretended to be afraid of the dark so her parents would keep the hall light burning!) and was pleased to speak with other adult fans such as Beverly Sills, Barbara Walters and Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Rehak states that Nancy is a part of American girlhood just like "slumber parties, homework and bubble gum".
The biggest mystery surrounding Nancy Drew isn't her capers, but her popularity. In 2002 the reprint of her debut book, The Secret of the Old Clock sold over 150.000 copies. (Note: The Secret of the Old Clock is available from us as an interactive game) A new updated Nancy Drew mystery book is due this January - complete with cell-phones!
Rehak concludes that Nancy today still teaches readers "how to think for ourselves, how to jump eagerly into adventure and then get out of the scrapes it inevitably involves, how to get the truth . . . "
